Stairway

I was trolling around on Youtube last night and came across Mr. Jimmy Page laying down a nasty solo on Stairway to Heaven. I consider this live version to be a cut above the studio version. Jimmy was an amazing guitar player before he decided that heroin was his drug of choice. What is it with guitar players and heroin?

Then while I continued to troll some more I came across this little nugget. I have no musical ability whatsoever. I mean I can play a little bit of the right hand on a piano, but it would take me a long time to learn just that song. I have always wanted to play the guitar but I guess it is really just a wish because I have never put any time into learning how to strum away. Maybe one day it will happen, and both the wife and I can get some chops. Anyways, what really impresses me about this is that this kid has not only memorized the solo to Stairway, but he adds a little bit of his own flavor to it. To top it off he can't be more than like 7. Any seven year old that can play Stairway is more than alright in my book. Unfortunately the guy has disabled the ability to embed this so you will have to follow the LINK.

MacBook Fun

So as you can see the MacBook is capable of making people look funny. Then again any camera is capable of making me look strange.

How Deep #2

So here is the original of the previous post. This song demonstrates the overall skills of the Gibb brothers at the height of their artistic ability. Unfortunately, as was pointed out to me last night, I really don't have any skills (even though I pointed out my skills with a bowstaff and nun-chucks). I expect that Babe should be able to sing every word of this song.

Did I mention the sweet hair.

How Deep is Your Love??

So I have been on this wierd musical kick lately. I stumbled across this the other day, and think it is pretty good. Mr. Frusciante is a great guitarist, I love the high pitched vocals, and you have to admire the fact that the guy is even alive after the struggles that he has had. Congrats to you John, on being a fully functional human being.

So Long Ray Ray

Ending what has been months of speculation as to his fate Ray Giacoletti resigned yesterday as coach of the University of Utah. While Ray is by all accounts a great person(just the opposite of Coach Majerus), he proved time after time that he was a terrible coach.

Many people are of the opinion that you can't fire a coach only three years in to their contract. I disagree immensely. Coach Giacoletti had clearly demonstrated that he was in over his head, and didn't have any idea what he was doing. He has led the Utes to 2 of their worst seasons ever, and several embarrassing losses. Why put off the inevitable?

Now let's hope that Dr. Hill can bring in someone who can coach. I am pulling for Mike Montgomery. Let's go Monty.
