ScAlito Hearings

Like a lot of people(basically lonely nerds and law students) I have been watching the Samuel Alito hearings on CSPAN. I have found him to be rather well spoken and somewhat thoughtful in his responses. Most of the questioning by the Senate Judiciary comittee is rather ridiculous. The senators either lavish way too much praise or try to tie Alito up by asking a 5+ minute question. Yesterdays hearings were a great demonstration of the latter when Diane Feinstein(who admitted to not being a lawyer) rambled on and on before finally asking some convaluted question that Alito answered in 5 words. I am convinced that this whole thing is just a dog and pony show.

The almost fictious nature of these hearings was demonstrated as clear as could be when Teddy Kennedy had his turn to ASK a few questions. I have already said this to some people, but isn't it inherently wrong for someone who not only was kicked out of Harvard for cheating, but is also for all intents and purposes a murderer to be questioning someone else's character and ability to apply the laws of the land to a particular case. The hearing would have turned into a classic piece of television had Alito gotten the stones to confront Teddy on his past. Oh, well maybe someday that will happen. But seriously, how is it that Teddy is in office? Then again how can the 2 best candidates for president come down to GW Bush and Kerry?
